The Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kasham Girls, Women, Youth and Community Development Initiative (KGWYCDI). The MoU, which focuses on capacity building and environmental sustainability advocacy, was signed at the Institute’s headquarters in Zaria.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Chairperson of KGWYCDI, Mrs. Emmanuel Dinatu, praised NITT for its passion for the development of the youth.
The collaboration sought to marry KGWYCDI’s understanding of grassroots’ challenges with NITT’s expertise in environmental sustainability and skills development.
“We’re actually the connectors with the community; we have hands-on experience about the problems at the grassroots. We see this as an opportunity for you to build capacity for Civil Society Organisations and Non Governmental Organisations”, Mrs. Emmanuel explained.
The Chairperson stated that KGWYCDI was brimming with excitement at the prospective impact the MoU would bring to the 19 Northern States.
Also speaking, the Director General/Chief Executive, NITT, Dr. Bayero Salih Farah, observed that the MoU would ultimately equip the youths with the requisite skills to enable them to attain their full potentials, as well as achieve self-reliance.
In the words of the DG/CE, “today will mark a very important milestone in the progress of your organisation. We appreciate your efforts to develop young girls and make them stand on their own, and become employers of labour. NITT is ever ready to support you in whatever way possible to achieve this noble objective.”
Dr. Farah further noted that NITT had been working relentlessly in the areas of clean energy and environmental sustainability.
“So many of our programmes are tailored towards sustainability; because that is the challenge in the world now: clean environment, clean energy, low emission, etc.”
The NITT Boss said that aside from skills development and capacity building, the Institute would particularly synergise with KGWYCDI in the area of advocacy.
