The Nigerian transport sector recorded a major milestone on Monday, 15 June, 2026 as the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) and Asia Arab Investment Nigeria Limited (AAI) formally signed a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement for the implementation of the Smart National Transport Databank Project (SNTDP).
The historic signing ceremony, held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, followed the recent approval of the project by the Federal Executive Council (FEC), underscoring the Federal Government’s commitment to leveraging technology and data-driven solutions to transform Nigeria’s transportation system.
Speaking at the event, stakeholders described the initiative as a game-changer that will strengthen evidence-based decision-making, improve operational efficiency, enhance transport safety, and support the realization of a modern, smart, and globally competitive transport sector.
The ceremony attracted an impressive gathering of government officials, industry leaders, development partners, and transport professionals. The DG/CE, NITT, Dr. Bayero Salih Farah presented an overview of the partnership.
The Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, President of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), represented the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. Also in attendance were the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC), Malam Shehu Mohammed; and the representative of the Honourable Minister of Transportation, Bar. Olusegun Omotola
Others were the Director-General of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), Dr. Jobson O. Ewalefoh; Chairman of AAI Nigeria, Hon. Ejike Njeze; the Egyptian Ambassador to Nigeria; Chief Executive Officer of AAI, Dr. Ahmed Abduhafez; Air Vice Marshal Samson Eyelosi; several Directors of NITT; and other captains of industry.
