Legal Unit
The history of the Legal Unit dates back to 2010 when it was first established with a Legal officer manning the affairs of the Unit. Presently the Unit has about 14 Legal officers, 7 in its Main office in Zaria, while 6 are at the various outreach centres and 1 clerical/secretary as at now.
Philosophy of the Unit
The philosophy of the Department/Unit is to provide/procure Legal services to the Institute at a cost-effective manner and according to global best practices

Functions of the Units
The following though not exhaustive are detailed function of the Unit
- It is responsible for advising the management on all Legal issues.
- Draft/vet Legal documents, Memorandum of understanding and contractual agreement where the Institute is a party.
- Arbitrate in matters between the Institute and other parties.
- Brief and liase with external solicitors as may be engaged by the institute and negotiate legal brief.
- Serve in ad-hoc committees requiring legal input and other services as may be directed by the Director General.
Programmes
The unit offers lectures on law related courses in the transport as at when required.
