Training Department
The Continuous Skills Development Department/Training serves as a one-stop-shop for the provision of training, re-training, and professional skills development for the Transport and Logistics industry in Nigeria and the West African sub-region. It delivers standard short-term learning and development programmes for continuous improvement of management skills in the transport sector in Nigeria and the West African sub-region.
Philosophy
The philosophy behind the establishment of the department is principally for re-orientation and re-engineering of management practice in transport industry, problem-solving, skill-improving, performance-enhancing, and competence building in consonance with the dynamic nature of the transport sector.
Functions of the Department
The ultimate function of the Training department is to provide management training for personnel employed in all modes of transport.
Courses
The Department was created in 1984 with one programme, but has over the years been expanded to over 150 courses per year based on the current needs of the industry. From twenty four (24) participants in 1984, the Institute today trains an average of 1200 participants annually. The nature of the programmes being organised in the Department include:
- Scheduled courses
These are programmes that are scheduled in advance to hold at designated venues and time in the course of a given year. They are targeted at and do attract diverse participnats from different organisations who attend to share knowledge and experiences on issues of common interest with the help of our expertise. Our experts that facilitate these programmes are drawn from the Institute and the industry to blend theory with practice. - Customised courses
The department also runs customised or tailor made programmes to meet the specific training needs of the client/organisation. These programmes have attracted a lot of patronage over the years because it is initiated by either the clients or the Institute. It often times give the clients an opportunity to negotiate the course contents, locations, times and course fees with a view to meet the peculiar training needs of their personnel. It has also expanded its programmes to cover the private sector, while the quality of its services has increased using state-of-the-art facilities. - Conferences and Workshops
The department annually organises international forums (conferences and workshops) which brings stakeholders and captains of industry together to discuss topical issues affecting the transport and logistics industry. - International study tours/courses
The International study tours are a great opportunity for Participants to learn from and engage with experts, while seeing firsthand the transport and logistics outcomes in the developed countries of Europe, USA and Asia.
