Academic Planning Unit
Overview
The Academic Planning Unit is a strategic unit under the Office of the Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), established (2025) to coordinate, monitor, and enhance the Institute’s academic programmes and educational standards. The unit ensures that all academic activities, curricula, and training programmes are aligned with national educational policies, professional standards, and the Institute’s mandate of developing high-level manpower for the transport and logistics sector.
Mandate
The Unit is charged with the responsibility of planning, coordinating, reviewing, and evaluating all academic programmes and activities of the Institute to ensure standardization quality, assurance, and compliance with regulatory body requirements.
Core Functions
- Develop and periodically review academic policies, regulations, and procedures.
- Coordinate the design, accreditation, and re-accreditation of academic programmes.
- Monitor the implementation of approved curricula and academic standards.
- Facilitate quality assurance across all academic units and programmes.
- Coordinate institutional academic planning and strategic development initiatives.
- Maintain academic statistics, records, and performance indicators.
- Liaise with relevant regulatory and accreditation bodies.
- Support the establishment of new academic programmes in line with emerging industry demands.
- Ensure continuous improvement in teaching, learning, research, and academic community service.

Sub-units
- Quality Control and Assurance Section: Ensures compliance with academic Standards, monitors program implementation, and coordinates accreditation exercises.
- Research, Statistics and Data Management Section: Handles academic data collection, Analysis, Instructional Statistics, Performance Indicators, and reporting.
- Administrative and Support Service Section: Provide Secretarial, Clerical, and Operational Support for the effective function of the department.
- Accreditation unit: Responsible for the institute programme alignment with all the necessary regulatory bodies: Example: NBTE, NUC, NBCE TVET ETC.
