The Hon. Minister of Transportation Senator Said Ahmed Alkali, has described the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria, as the citadel of transport technology in Nigeria.
The Hon. Minister stated this when the delegation from the 2025 Master’s in Transport and Logistics (MTL) Field Study students led by Engr. Dr. Remi Adewumi today, Monday July 21, 2025, paid him a courtesy visit at the Federal Ministry of Transport (FMOT) headquarters in Abuja.
The Hon. Minister, who was represented by the Director overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Musa Omayie Ibrahim, observed that transportation was the indispensable oxygen in the life of every society.
He, however, noted that man’s transportation needs had come at a critical cost to the environment and society. Mr. Ibrahim stated that the Ministry had intensified efforts to mitigate the negative impact of transportation by striving towards a sustainable transport system.
He noted that in pursuit of its mandate, the FMOT had undertaken certain measures to overcome some of the challenges bedevilling sustainable transport in the country.
Speaking further, Mr. Ibrahim urged the MTL students to take their studies as well as the exercise seriously, because “the decisions we make today will shape the future of transportation, the environment, and our communities for generations to come. He told the students: “you are from our own very most prestigious Institute of transport technology; the technology wing of the Ministry.”
In his remarks, the Director General/Chief Executive, NITT, Dr. Bayero Salih Farah, who was represented by the Director, Transport School, Engr Dr. Remi Adewumi, stated that the purpose of the field trip was to expose the students to practical realities of transport situations in the country particularly, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In his words, “While classroom lectures provide the necessary knowledge, skills in operational and strategic management can only be developed through exposing participants to realistic operational and management practice in the industry.”
Dr. Adewumi thanked the Hon. Minister for his immeasurable support for the Institute, as well as hosting the NITT delegation. He enjoined the students to conduct themselves responsibly throughout the exercise.
Both Prof. Usman A. Kibon and Dr. Suzzana Zego reiterated the need for responsible behaviour and dedication during the field study visit.
