The Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria, has inaugurated the newly reconstituted Anti-corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU). The inauguration which took place on Tuesday, 20th August, 2024, included the administration of oath by a team from the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related Offences Commission (ICPC), Kaduna State Office, as well as induction/training.
In his remarks, the Director General/Chief Executive, NITT, Zaria, Dr. Bayero Salih Farah disclosed that although finding people of impeccable character was a herculean task, no stone was left unturned in ensuring that only credible and incorruptible persons were selected.
“The selection was based on merit and the track records of members whose characters have been ascertained to be exceptional ”, he stated.
Speaking further, the DG/CE assured that the NITT Management would extend the same support and cooperation given to the erstwhile ACTU members to the newly reconstituted Unit
Dr. Farah, who noted that NITT had immensely benefited from the reports and recommendations of the ICPC in the past, hoped that the cordial working relationship would continue.
Also speaking, Asst. Commissioner, ICPC, Kaduna State Office, Mohammed Habib Kwalam stated that the establishment of ACTU was approved by the Federal Government in 2001 to essentially curb corruption in the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), stressing that as staff with a firsthand knowledge of the operational dynamics of their respective organisations, the ACTU members stood a better chance of unearthing and combating corrupt practices.
Speaking after taking the oath of office, the Chairman, ACTU, NITT, Mal. Umar Mohammed Bello thanked the Management for finding him and his team worthy of such a critical service. He assured that his team would do everything humanly possible to justify their selection. The vote of thanks was delivered by the Registrar, Dr. Maina W.A. Tarfa, signalling the end of the colourful event.
