Ahead of a planned joint international conference later in the year, the Director General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Technology Management (NACETEM), Obafemi Awolowo University, IIe Ife, Osun State, Dr. Olushola Odusanya, led a high-powered delegation to the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria on Thursday, 6th June, 2024.
The meeting was aimed at discussing the modalities for operationalizing the already existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NITT and NACETEM.
In his remarks, the Director General/Chief Executive of NITT, Dr. Bayero Salih Farah, commended the efforts of his NACETEM counterpart, adding that the collaboration was “a long time coming.” Dr. Farah also observed that he had constituted a technical committee to meet with the NACETEM team.
The terms of reference for the technical committee, Dr. Farah noted, included but not limited to: conduct joint meetings with the Technical Committee of NACETEM and discuss the different levels of the implementation process of the signed MoU, consistent with the Terms of Reference.
Also speaking, NACETEM DG/CE, Dr. Olushola Odusanya stated that the collaboration would avail the two institutions the opportunity of harnessing technological innovations in driving transportation in the country.
“The planned joint international conference will also help being experts and stakeholders together to proffer solutions to certain challenges bedevilling the nation’s transport sector” he said.
Essentially, the collaboration would also set in motion the mechanism to rejig the transport sector, especially in the area of decarbonisation.
The two technical committees were mandated to brainstorm and come up with actionable ideas on how to better deploy technology in the transport and logistics industry in Nigeria.
The highlight of the event was when Dr. Farah took his counterpart, Dr. Odusanya on a tour of the Institute’s Transport Technology Centre.
