NITT Flags Off DG/CE’s Football Cup

The Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria, has commenced an interdepartmental football competition tagged “DG/CE’s Cup”. The maiden football competition was organised by the Sports Committee of the Institute.

Speaking through a representative during the flag off ceremony, the Director General/Chief Executive, Dr. Bayero Salih Farah, stressed the need for physical exercise. “We need to exercise our body not only for physical and mental fitness, but also for optimal productivity”, he said. He further urged the sports committee to consider expanding the competition to other sporting activities for more inclusiveness. He also implored the players to play safe as the competition was a friendly one.

In his remarks, the Sports Committee Chairman and Director, Transport School, Dr. Ibrahim Baba Mundi, thanked the DG/CE for upgrading the Institute’s sports centre. He reiterated the importance of physical exercise. Dr. Mundi stated that “the essence of the competition is to reinvigorate the spirit of sportsmanship, which will also enhance productivity.” He also enjoined the players to be mindful of the friendly nature of the competition by playing safe.

The first match was between Strategic Units and Transport School. Other fixtures for the first round included: Consultancy Dept Vs Registry, TTC Vs Lib. & Info Services (7/2/2023); Training Dept. Vs Audit, TR&I Vs Bursary (8/2/2023).

Transport School had qualified for the next round after beating Strategic Units 5–3 on penalty shootout.

The highlight of the event was the symbolic kicking of the ball by the representative of the DG/CE, Engr. Elkana Ngbale.
