The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) in partnership with the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) has commenced a five day capacity training programme for dockworkers in the eastern zone.
The programme which is targeted at improving the skills and knowledge of the dockworkers was fully sponsored by NIMASA, whereas, the NITT through its training department is providing the manpower.
Speaking when he declared-open the programme in Port Harcourt on Monday, Director, Eastern Zone of NIMASA, Sani Audu represented by Barr. Kelechi Ekpem said the programme is in line with the Agency’s act,2007, and was put together to equip the dockworkers in the discharge of their duties.
He said,” What you are doing here today is enshrined in the NIMASA act 2007. If you read section 27, subsection 1 (a) to (d) of the act, it talks about dockworkers and their training. For some time now, this training has not been organized. I’m glad that under the present NIMASA leadership of Dr.Bashir Jamoh, the training has continued. The DG deemed it fit and made it necessary for this training to continue, that is why you need to take this programme seriously.
